From the Captain...

Monthly Report

In my last report I indicated that August is the time to "catch your breath." So much so that Christophe was able to take a longer than normal break which was well deserved and even Sesinando was away and able to avoid me! I will report on the course in my other report, but even the Lady Captain and I escaped for a few days to Evora where we enjoyed a change of atmosphere and some wine tasting!

Indeed wine and club improvements and social activities are in my main plans this month! We are very near to negotiating an agreement with the owners through the Dona Filipa Hotel for a "members" wine which will only be available from the bar and restaurant to members at a special price. That price will be at a considerable discount! Quite a deal if we pull it off. The wine is coming from Herdade Das Servas which is north of Evora and Cathy and I visited it to see if it was as good as it seems. We think it is! Their wines have won over 30 international awards in the last few years and those of us who have tasted the wines believe they show a considerable improvement over the present choice. It is of course a very personal thing and members are always free to choose any wine which is available within the
club. There are a few small issues to tie up, but Christophe and I hope by next month we will be organised.

Ladies Section

Cathy Harper

Following the fun and entertainment of Gala week, August has been very quiet. Many lady members were either back in their home countries or elsewhere on holiday. As a result of this, we only had 9 ladies playing in the monthly Medal, 12 in the fun competition, and another 9 in the monthly stableford. Twenty two of us went to San Lorenzo on August 26th and enjoyed a reduction only competition there. It was a lovely morning and everyone enjoyed playing a different course but sadly their enjoyment was not reflected in the majority of the scores! Sue George's won with a great score of 41 points and Therese Van Doorn was the runner up with 33 points! The rest of us just had a good time!
