Monthly Report

The month of May started with the annual trip to the K club, which as usual was very enjoyable, and saw the level of Golf affected by social activities. I would like to thank David and Mai Markey, who once again hosted us brilliantly. Congratulations to Orlando Hill who won the tournament over the three days to my delight, as all my money was on him.

Congratulations to our Captain on winning the Ben Hogan Challenge over Quinta do Lago and well done to the Ladies, as it would not have happened without their great result on the first day.

We had a good attendance for the Mixed Pairs Matchplay which saw Phil and Nancy Schofield win the final from Chris Hales and Barbara Kyne. It was great to see so many players staying and others coming back for the prize presentation, which took place straight after the final match finished. The trophy was originally presented by Tim Russell, who made the trip especially to be here for the ceremony.

On the 27th of May we started the Club Roll Up, which will be played every Tuesday lunch time from now onwards, followed by drinks and a presentation. We had 12 and 16 players for the first two of these tournaments, and we are looking forward to seeing an increase in participants, as it seems it might become very popular amongst the membership.

We started May with a friendly Matchplay vs Laranjal; what a beautiful course! We played in the afternoon and enjoyed tapas alongside Sharon Henderson's birthday cake afterwards.  We won 3/2 - always a good start for the 10 friendly matches. I would like to thank the group of 30 ladies who play regular friendly matches, home and away, providing another way to meet other golfers and discover new courses.

As it's always very nice to go home after an exotic holiday, back at Pinheiros Altos we played a Medal, and finally had the opportunity to hand in an Eclectic card on Wednesday the 7th.

Approximately 40 ladies are playing the Eclectic competition this year, which runs over several months, from April until the 30th of September. Cathy Harper and Zoe Pirret are responsible for running this competition and they will be glad to provide you with more information.

Helen Mills (75 nett) and Barbara Black (78 nett) were the medal winners of the first division, while Maried Kooijmans had a better back nine and beat me with a score of 71 nett in the second division.

On Monday May the 12th, after our FANTASTIC contribution to regain the Ben Hogan Trophy, we went to Carvoeiero and played on Pinta. We were welcomed by Mientje de Goeij alongside her team, and though we did our best, they won 3/2.
